Some research confirms the effectivess of well-being champions. One US study, for instance, has shown that "having a work unit well-being champion, coupled with an organizational commitment to employee well-being, is associated with better employee engagement, satisfaction, and perception of personal well-being, as well as a more favorable perception of the organization." (Wieneke et al., 2019).

Relevance To Canadian Context:

While well being champions are identified through UK source, they are also relevant in the context of Canadian workplaces. Indeed, Government of Canada website feautures one great article on a workplace mental health champions and their role in Canadian context

Other Important Information:

Wellbeing champions are not expected to provide advice to colleagues. Wellbeing champions are there to listen and signpost colleagues to the services the organisation provides. They need to undergo training in order to be in this role.
