Faculty and staff at universities may have very little knowledge of HR departments, and it is not easy during times of crisis or illness to find all the needed information. When a member of HR staff is contacted by faculty or staff who are ill or experiencing a major life event that is causing distress (e.g., divorce, bereavement), having a checklist to follow would ensure that the employee receives all available information and support rather than receiving support only from the areas they know to contact.
