Seeking leaves and accommodations
Ensuring that the process of taking parental leave or leave of absence (LOA) due to mental health or other health issues is clear and easy to access is beneficial for physicians and trainees. Organizations can offer support by providing financial assistance, simplifying administrative processes, and building redundancies into the system to minimize the barriers to taking LOAs for physicians. Additionally, supports for returning to work (RTW), such as a program for a gradual RTW, mentorship, or accommodation for returning physicians, should be in place.
